The Columbia Star SC Education MARCH 27. 2009 - 7 Bridge Creek Ele- mentary held its first fifth grade DARE graduation on March 4, Sheriff Lott came and spoke to the stu- dents about the importance of stay- ing away from drugs and violence and focusing more on their education. Also during the ceremony the DARE essay winners were announced from each fifth grade class. They are Jason Pressley, Ms. Floyd's class; Kayla Charles, Ms. Williams' class; "lYe' Best, Mrs. Davis' Class; Lauren Silvis, Mrs. Branham's class. Ki]]ian student completes World ership Forum ]e Nai' Sumpter Contributed by KiUian Elementary School Killian Elementary School student, Je Nai' Sumpter, completed the 2009 World Leadership Forum: Washington, DC, and helped make the pro- gram a success. As a graduate of the forum, Je Nai' has worked to develop self-confidence and leadership skills and gained an important advantage in acad'emics and the college admissions process. Je Nai's participation in this forum has also played a role in furthering Presi- dent Eisenhower's vision of world peace and under- standing, while preparing to serve as a leader and global citizen. AC Flora presents The Sonnd of Music Contributed by AC Flora High School A cast of 50 students from the Music Department will be presenting The Sound of Music on March 26- 29 in the Flora Theater. The evening performances are at 7:30 pm and the Sun- day matinee is 3 pm. Advance sales can be made at 240-3139 or with a cast member. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Principal of Richland Northeast High, Ralph Schmidt came to Bridge Creek Elementary to read to the Kindergartners during their Dr. Seuss Celebration. News from Spring Valley School Contributed by Spring Valley High School DJ McEachern and a friend from Lugoff-Elgin High School were winners in the Katie Fitch "Love for Katie" fight against cancer charity bass fishing tourna- ment on March 7. They were competing against all adults. DJ also got the big fish prize. DJ McEachern Spring Valley senior Sid- ney Little is featured as the R2TV M&M Student of the Month. The M&M student is selected for "Maintaining the Momentum" of excel- lence in Richland School District Two. R2TV airs on Time Warner Cable Chan- nel 12. R2TV is also airing the highlights of the Lady Vikings State Champi- onship game. Andrew "Horne, Eric Tro- fatter, Aaron Moses, and Taylor Brown participated in the Create IT Camp at USC. Blue Cross Blue Shield provided computer parts, and the four students built a lap top during the three-day camp. After- wards, the students were allowed to keep the lap top. Since the competition, the students have installed two operating systems on the lap top.
